THE KUCHING OLD BAZAAR CULTURAL MAPPING AND TOURISM PROMOTION PROGRAMME

In celebration of the upcoming milestone of 25th anniversary of its formation in 2021, Kuching Old Market Community Association sees the urgent necessity to record the history and enhance the tourism activities of their areas of territories which we identified as the ‘Kuching Old Bazaar’. Benefiting from its long history and centralised location, KOB is currently one of the popular tourism destinations in Kuching. Therefore, we launched the KUCHING OLD BAZAAR CULTURAL MAPPING AND TOURISM PROMOTION PROGRAMME, supported by Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Cultural Sarawak.

Following months of hard work, we have produced the book ‘Kuching Old Bazaar – Its History and Changes’, a visitor’s map, brochures on local cuisine and old trades, the documentary ‘The Story of Kuching Old Bazaar’, QR Heritage plaques, a mural depicting life in the Old Bazaar and the Kuching Old Bazaar website. The official launching ceremony of ‘KUCHING OLD BAZAAR’ has been grandly held at Carpenter Street on March 16, the Guest of Honour is YB Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Cultural Sarawak AND Minister of Youth and Sports Sarawak.
